Key Principle: PawnSight is built local-first, which means your shop data stays on your computer by default. You control what gets backed up to the cloud, and we can't access your customer information unless you explicitly enable encrypted backups.
What Information We Collect
Shop Data
When you use PawnSight software:
- All your pawn transactions, inventory, and customer records are stored locally on your shop's computer
- We only receive this data if you enable our encrypted backup feature
- Even then, we can't read it - it's encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it leaves your computer
Website and Account Information
Through our website and when you create an account:
- Contact information (name, email, business details)
- Payment information (processed securely by Stripe)
- Website usage data through analytics
- Information you provide through our waitlist form (via Formspree)
Technical Information
Our software automatically collects:
- Software version and usage statistics (no personal data)
- Error logs to help us improve the product
- Basic system information for compatibility
How We Store Your Information
Local-First Architecture
PawnSight runs entirely on your shop's computer. Your customer information never leaves your premises unless you choose to enable cloud backups. This gives you complete control over your data.
Cloud Backups (Optional)
If you enable cloud backups:
- Data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before transmission
- We store encrypted data on secure servers
- Only you have the keys to decrypt your data
- We cannot access your customer information even if we wanted to
Third Parties We Work With
Payment Processing
We use Stripe Connect for payment processing. Customer payments go directly to your business account, and we receive our platform fee through Stripe. Stripe handles all payment card data and is PCI compliant.
